Real Living Wage rises to £9.90 an hour

The Real Living Wage, an independent calculation made according to the cost of living, rose on the 15 November 2021 to £9.90 per hour meaning an increase of 40p an hour for employees working for employers that have signed up to this voluntary scheme. The Real Living Wage rates apply to anyone over the age of 18

Employers in London who are part of the Real Living Wage initiative will now pay £11.05 an hour, an increase of 20p per hour.

There are approximately 9,000 employers signed up to the initiative which will benefit 300,000 employees across the country.

National Living Wage

Whilst the Real Living Wage is a voluntary initiative the Government’s National Living Wage is compulsory and currently stands at £8.91 but is only for those over 23 years of age.

At the recent Budget, it was announced that the National Living Wage will increase by 6.6% to £9.50 an hour from 1 April 2022.
