Marathon challenge for Keeley Walker

Support our colleague Keeley Walker with her charity fundraising as she trains for the London Marathon

Our colleague Keeley Walker has a huge task ahead of her this year as she trains to run the London Marathon in October.

Everyone here at McKenzies is rooting for her as she will be running in aid of two charities.

Keeley’s chosen charities

Keeley has chosen to raise money for these two important charities as they are very close to her heart.

Keeley tells us more about why she has chosen to support these charities: “It was only a few years back when I truly learnt about the challenges that come with dealing with Cystic Fibrosis when I met my partner whose sister Carly had the genetic condition. As a new-born, Carly’s parents were told she was unlikely to live past the age of two. But Carly was a fighter!

“She exceeded these expectations and although Carly’s life was short, and by no means without challenge, she lived it to the fullest. Carly passed away at age 38, on 6th April 2021 and this has left a huge hole in the family but we have to keep going and fighting.

“The CF Trust does amazing work to fight CF, find treatment and unite people to stop cystic fibrosis. On 2nd Oct 2022, just 6 days after what would have been Carly’s 40th birthday (and jointly my 30th) birthday, I’ll be proud to run the London Marathon in memory of Carly and would be grateful of any donations, no matter how small, as this is all going to an amazing cause.”

In preparation for the London Marathon, Keeley will be racking up many miles to get race day fit for 26 miles. As part of the training, Keeley will be running the Big Half Marathon on 4th September.

Keeley says: “Over the past year I have been networking closely with Slide Away, an amazing local charity who support bereaved children in Kent. They receive very little government support and predominantly rely on donations and fundraising events like these. I will also be looking to raise a minimum of £1,000 for this great cause.”

About the Cystic Fibrosis Trust

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a life-shortening genetic condition that slowly destroys the lungs and digestive system. The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the only UK-wide charity fighting for a life unlimited, when everyone living with CF can look forward to a long, healthy life.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic condition which causes sticky mucus to build up in the lungs and digestive system. It affects more than 10,800 people in the UK. One in 25 of us carries the faulty gene that causes it, usually without knowing.

About Slide Away

Slide Away supports bereaved children and those living with a family member who has a life-limiting illness. Our workshops provide young people with the opportunity to express their feelings, hold onto their memories and find ways of coping on difficult days.
